Advise from the Experts -- Seamaster Caliber 1342

Ok experts, I am going to put you on the spot. My father presented me with this (he used to wear it). It is gold (plate?), quartz movement. Caliber 1342. My research has lead me to the model below (196.0078) but I can not seem to find any pictures of this watch referenced anywhere.

Apparently, this has a very unique movement ... not your typical one found in 1342. But, hey, I am a green rookie on the vintage side (long team wearer). 1977 Omega Seamaster (196.0078, caliber 1342) | 2006 Omega Speedmaster Pro LE (3366.51.00, caliber 1861)
Answer:
BTW - this watch needs to get "maintained" every year almost on the nose. It doesn't travel well and just seems to die out pretty frequently (hence why I went to a diff watch, read: SPEEDY LE!)

Thanks in advance! 1977 Omega Seamaster (196.0078, caliber 1342) | 2006 Omega Speedmaster Pro LE (3366.51.00, caliber 1861)
Answer:
If it is, then the watch is probably gold platted. I really don't know anything about vintage quartz Omegas, but I did find this on the Omega website under their vintage section (which is free to sign up for) on that caliber and reference number.

Answer:
When a quartz watch needs a battery replaced often it's a sign that the gears are getting dirty and need to be cleaned. The dirt creates drag causing the watch to use more power to drive the gears so that the watch can tell time.

Thanks Damon.

Yup, the back is steel colored. And you are right, the Omega site is where I picked the model info from (guessing from the list of watches that came back from there search). But I am just not convinced that this watch really is the model they are describing.

In addition, I was told that the movement was unique on this model...

In terms of the gears being dirty. It has supposedly gone back to Bienne for servicing 3 diff times (so I am told by my AD).

I appreciate your help guys! 1977 Omega Seamaster (196.0078, caliber 1342) | 2006 Omega Speedmaster Pro LE (3366.51.00, caliber 1861)
Answer:

I have a cal.1342, although it's just a non-associated "vanilla" Omega Quartz, case number 196.0160, gold plated with matching bracelet from 1977. They are a bit heavy on batteries, considering they're not a complicated movement (centre seconds and date) and a fresh battery lasts about a year. I can't see why the movement would be called unique though, they're fairly common... Regards, KierΩn
Answer:
Thanks Kieron - What do you mean by "non-associated" ? 1977 Omega Seamaster (196.0078, caliber 1342) | 2006 Omega Speedmaster Pro LE (3366.51.00, caliber 1861)
Answer:

By non-associated I mean it doesn't have one of the Omega family names on the dial, such as Seamaster, DeVille, Geneve, etc., it just says Omega above the hands and Quartz below... Regards, KierΩn
